What does open enrollment mean to you and your family? During the open enrollment period, you can enroll into the all the programs with the guarantee that you cannot be denied.
Disability Income Insurance
The disability income insurance program is a member only benefit. therefore, spouses cannot enroll. You may choose the maximum amount that your are qualified for or any amount below.
Life Insurance Enrollment
If you enroll yourself in the life insurance programs, and your spouse is currently not disabled, meaning collecting either Social Security Disability Income, FERS Disability Retirement income or disability income from a private insurer, then you are able to enroll your spouse for $15,000 on a guaranteed issue basis. If your spouse is able to answer “NO” to 2 additional questions, then they are eligible for $25,000. The amounts are total from both policies combined. For example, if your spouse elects 10 Year Term Life Insurance for $25,000, then they cannot enroll in the TransElite UL program. HOWEVER, just by answering 2 additional questions, your spouse can receive up to $100,000 in total coverage from just one policy or both.
Please note, if you are member and wish to apply for life insurance amounts over the guaranteed issue amount for you and/or your spouse, paper applications must be used.
